X GIF Video Downloader

An X GIF is not quite what it seems. When someone uploads a GIF to X, the platform converts it on the spot into a short, silent, looping MP4 video — smaller, smoother, and in millions of colours instead of the 256 a real GIF allows. That MP4 is what plays in your timeline, and it is the original file worth saving.

X gives viewers no save button for GIFs at all. An X GIF downloader finds the animated media in a tweet and hands you that original MP4 — the file X itself stores — so it loops and plays everywhere, from WhatsApp and Discord to any video editor.

Tip: use the direct post URL — the one containing /status/. Profile links and search pages contain no single GIF to save.

Reaction GIFs are the internet's body language — the perfect reply, the sports moment, the meme that lands better than words. They also vanish constantly: tweets get deleted, accounts get suspended, and a GIF you saw this morning can be unreachable by tonight.

An X GIF downloader lets you keep the ones that matter. Save them as compact MP4s that loop anywhere, build a personal reaction library, and reuse them in chats and edits without hunting through your timeline again. For full video tweets rather than GIFs, our X (Twitter) Video Downloader does the same job.

• Use the /status/ link — the tweet's own URL, from Share → Copy link or the address bar, is the only link that resolves.
• MP4 is the original — do not be surprised that a GIF saves as MP4; that is the file X stores, and it looks better than a converted GIF would.
• Need a true .gif? — if a forum or tool strictly requires .gif, convert the downloaded MP4 with any free video-to-GIF converter; this page gives you the full-quality source to convert from.
• GIFs have no sound — there is no audio to extract, so the MP3 option does not apply to GIF posts.

Downloading videos for personal, offline use is generally fine when the content is yours, Creative Commons licensed, or the creator allows saving. What you should not do is re-upload someone else's X GIF videos as your own, or use downloads commercially without permission.

Copyright holders can request removals through our DMCA page, and we comply with valid notices promptly. When in doubt, enjoy downloads privately and credit creators if you share anything derived from their work. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

We also respect platform boundaries: only publicly available videos can be downloaded, and private, members-only, or login-walled content is never accessible through this tool — by design.

Free X GIF downloader — X doesn't let you save GIFs, and a GIF saved from the app is often a low-quality loop. Paste the tweet link here and download the GIF as MP4 video instead — sharper, smaller, and playable everywhere.

Works with twitter.com and x.com links. Animated GIFs in tweets are really short silent videos under the hood, so they save as MP4. No X account needed, free and unlimited. For full video tweets, use our X (Twitter) Video Downloader.
